1,393 Arrested in Global 'OP Stream' Crackdown on Child Abuse Darknet Site
A major international operation, 'OP Stream', has led to the arrest of 1,393 suspects and the seizure of numerous exhibits related to child sexual abuse. Coordinated by Europol, the operation involved 38 countries and targeted the darknet platform 'KidFlix', which streamed and shared images of severe child abuse. Over 91,000 videos, totalling 6,288 hours, were found on the platform, with around 3.5 videos added per hour. Law enforcement agencies, including those in Germany, traced suspects' payments through cryptocurrencies, even when privacy-oriented methods were used. The operation resulted in the seizure of 201 exhibits in Lower Saxony alone, including child sex dolls and sedatives. Authorities also secured electronic data carriers, mobile phones, and PCs. Throughout the investigation, immediate action was taken to protect at-risk children, with suspects arrested and children placed in protective care. The successful 'OP Stream' operation highlights the international cooperation and determination to combat the sexual abuse of children online. The identification of 1,393 suspects worldwide sends a strong message to those involved in such heinous crimes.
