Introducing Adaptec's SmartRAID 4300 Series: A Revolutionary Enterprise-Grade RAID Card

Adaptec, a leading name in storage solutions, has announced the launch of its new enterprise-grade software-defined storage (SDS) RAID card, the SmartRAID 4300 series. This innovative product is designed to cater to the growing demands of high-performance storage applications in data centers.

The SmartRAID 4300 series boasts a disaggregated architecture, separating the software and hardware components to enhance performance and scalability. Unlike traditional in-line RAID controllers, the SmartRAID 4300 separates the Smart Storage platform software (running on the host CPU) from the hardware accelerator. This design enables the host CPU to manage data flows directly to NVMe SSDs over PCIe, while the dedicated accelerator hardware offloads RAID parity (XOR) operations, eliminating bottlenecks common in older designs.

This architecture delivers up to a 7x boost in input/output (I/O) performance compared to previous generations. It supports up to 32 CPU-attached NVMe x4 SSDs and up to 64 logical drives or RAID arrays. The design supports both PCIe Gen 4 and Gen 5 host CPUs, enabling sequential read speeds up to 291 GB/s when fully loaded with 32 drives.

The SmartRAID 4300 series offers enterprise-grade RAID and storage support, with features like hot-plug, hot-spare, and support for native 4K and 512-byte sector NVMe devices. It is tailored for scalable, software-defined storage solutions, particularly suitable for AI-focused and high-performance workloads in data centers.

To maintain enterprise-grade data protection, it incorporates hardware root of trust, secure boot and update mechanisms, attestation, and Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) support. Multiple safeguards ensure end-to-end data integrity.

The SmartRAID 4300 comes in a low-profile MD2 form factor, fitting into a single PCIe x16 slot, simplifying deployment in server OEM platforms and data center storage systems.

In a RAID 5 array with a fully saturated 32-drive network of PCIe 5.0 SSDs, the SmartRAID 4300 series is capable of rebuild times of up to 32 GB/s for reads and 22.6 GB/s for writes. This makes it an ideal solution for high-performance storage applications, particularly those requiring high I/O performance.

In summary, the Adaptec SmartRAID 4300 series offers a modern, high-performance, and scalable RAID solution for enterprise data centers by leveraging disaggregated software/hardware architecture, security features, and compatibility with high-speed NVMe devices and PCIe 4/5 infrastructure.

Technology and data-and-cloud-computing are essential components for Adaptec's SmartRAID 4300 series, as the innovative enterprise-grade RAID card is designed to thrive in high-performance storage applications within data centers, particularly those that involve AI-focused and high-performance workloads. The SmartRAID 4300 series supports native 4K and 512-byte sector NVMe devices, ensures end-to-end data integrity with multiple safeguards, and leverages data flows directly to NVMe SSDs through host CPU management and dedicated hardware acceleration, making it a prime solution for today's technology-driven data center environments.
