Affordable Humanoid Robot Unveiled by igus
Igus Unveils Affordable and Industrial-Focused Iggy Rob Humanoid Robot
Motion plastics specialist igus has announced the release of Iggy Rob, a humanoid robot designed for industrial production and transport tasks. Iggy Rob is a significant development from igus, built upon the ReBeL Move autonomous mobile robot platform, and incorporates the igus ReBeL Cobot and ReBeL Hand low-cost humanoid robotic arms.
Iggy Rob stands approximately 1.70 meters (67 inches) tall and can operate autonomously for up to eight hours on a single charge. The robot is powered by the igus Robot Control software (iRC), which is CE-certified and approved for fleet management under VDE 5050 standards.
Iggy Rob is priced at approximately $54,500, significantly lower than most other humanoid robots that cost two to three times more. This affordable price point makes Iggy Rob a disruptive and affordable entry point into humanoid robotics.
Iggy Rob is targeted at industrial and service applications, including roles such as internal transport, component placement in manufacturing equipment, reception, and canteen services. The lack of legs and stable AMR base supports factory environments with existing infrastructure.
The robot is equipped with two igus ReBeL Cobot arms, bionic hands, a LiDAR sensor, and 3D cameras for advanced object detection and navigation. It offers compatibility with modern ROS2 systems, making it well-suited for integration in existing robotics infrastructures.
Igus offers a "test before you invest" program to accelerate adoption of igus products and ensure suitability for diverse environments. Companies can trial Iggy Rob on-site with support from igus experts, allowing them to assess its feasibility and performance in real-world applications.
Iggy Rob stands out for its affordability, industrial-focused design using a wheeled base instead of legs, and integrated software compatibility. This makes it particularly suitable for factories and industrial service tasks where stability and payload are key, contrasting with more complex but expensive humanoids designed for dynamic mobility or advanced interaction.
