Agatha's Enchanting Conclusion in Episode 5: Mystical Cliffhanger Revealed

Title: Agatha's Swords of Vengeance Swing in "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power"

Our magical expedition continues on the enchanted path of the Witches' Road in episode five of the Marvel Disney+ show, "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power."

The latest episode sets the stage with an array of forest creatures—a fox, crow, snake, and owl—slithering through the now deeply saturated, eerie woodland of the Witches' Road, giving off nostalgic vibes reminiscent of Endor and Dagobah. These furry scouts miraculously turn out to be four of the Salem Seven, who, foiled or not, have cleverly managed to track the coven into their impending confrontation. As they slither and writhe like rabid ferrets, they unmask themselves, revealing stylish masks that add an edgy touch to their formidable appearance.

Back from a haunting dream, Lilia alarms the group that the Salem Seven have indeed emerged through "a door left open" due to last week's summoning spell for Rio. In this episode, we learn that the Seven are the children of Agatha's savagely murdered coven, who, driven by vengeance, were transformed into a primal, joined-at-the-hip band of shape-shifters. Agatha delivers a chilling reminder: "The moral of the story is always finish what you started," she warns, before adding, "mercy, pffft, there's no need for that nonsense."

With their back against the wall, the coven decides on a hexenbesen, a traditional spell that lies dormant in the ground around them. Although met with initial dismissal as cheesy, they perform a whimsical ritual, trading magical tree roots like a curious crafting session, before taking flight on their makeshift aircraft. Soaring past a mind-boggling "blood moon," they marvel at the exhilaration of their newfound mode of travel, seemingly answering the age-old question, "Why haven't we been doing this all along?"

The trials continue, with each member transported to a pastel-hued cabin in the woods, complete withmusic that would have you convinced you've stumbled upon an 80's slasher flick set. Each coven member is dressed in pastel-colored outfits worthy of a Wakefield sister sleepover, with Teen's attire paying homage to his comic book roots. ThoughAgatha's posthumous presence remains unclear, Rio suspects this trial has been designed specifically for her, with the giant red moon outside signaling the veil between life and death is at its thinnest, making Agatha the ideal candidate to commune with the dead.

Naturally, an Ouija board appears before them, and as they scrutinize the rules, they discover that a spirit will be released if any participating practitioner removes her hands from the planchette. As the group members ponder who will choose to commune with Agatha, the board summons a demonic force and possesses Agatha, making her contort her body in a gruesome display reminiscent of Regan from The Exorcist.

The spirits conjured are revealed to be the deceased members of the coven, led by Agatha's own mother, Evanora Harkness. Evanora insists that the coven must persevere the Witches' Road without Agatha, labeling her as evil. However, Rio rejects this assessment, leading to a heated argument among the coven members. In a desperate attempt to expel the malevolent spirit, Alice sacrifices herself, exorcising Evanora from Agatha's body.

As the group continues to question their path and purpose, the third trial is completed, with Agatha instantly seizing the life force of Alice, killing her in the process. Upon hearing of Alice's death, Teen vows to avenge her, eventually disclosing that he is none other than Wanda's magically created son, Billy. The episode concludes on a shocking cliffhanger similar to the finale of Doctor Who's "Trial of a Timelord" season, with Teen, seemingly out of control, turning on the other coven members and throwing Agatha into the mud.

After losing a member of their coven, the group remains surprisingly composed, perhaps hinting at a darker side to their motivations. Regardless, the suspense surrounding the outcome of these trials and the fate of the coven members only grows stronger as we approach the final episodes of this captivating series.

With just four episodes left, including a double feature on Halloween, we can't wait to find out how the rest of this magical journey unfolds. Until then, don't forget to catch up on the upcoming releases for Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek, and the future of DC on film and TV. And of course, stay tuned for updates on Doctor Who.
