AI technology from MTS will facilitate economic monitoring in Kamchatka
In Kamchatka Krai, Russia, MTS has introduced a groundbreaking environmental risk management system that leverages AI analytics and machine learning for advanced, real-time, and predictive environmental monitoring. This system, named the Proactive Environmental Risk Management System, is set to revolutionize the protection and sustainable management of the region's unique and vulnerable natural ecosystems.
The system, which is the first domestic technological development with AI analytics and machine learning for environmental monitoring of air and water quality, continuously monitors environmental indicators and analyzes trends to detect anomalies or emerging risks quickly. It uses combinations of the most advanced forecasting models in the scientific community to build meteorological models and maps of pollutant concentrations, allowing for early detection and prevention of ecological damage.
The Proactive Environmental Risk Management System also provides predictive insights that enable local authorities and stakeholders to act before environmental degradation occurs. This proactive approach aligns with conservation goals and regional development plans, facilitating data-driven decision-making for sustainable management.
MTS Kamchatka Krai Director, Yevgeniya Salnikova, commented on the integration of AI into environmental protection, stating that it will further strengthen their position in developing environmentally safe technologies and regenerative economy technologies. The service predicts negative environmental impact from specific pollution sources 48 hours in advance, enabling timely intervention and minimizing financial and environmental risks.
The service combines Big Data analytics and mathematical calculations, with compact air monitoring posts measuring concentrations of gases, temperature, pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, and analytical buoys for water monitoring determining the concentration of oxygen, pH, salts, turbidity, oil products, ammonium ions, and water level (river flooding).
The Proactive Environmental Risk Management System is currently undergoing the procedure for inclusion in the Ministry of Industry and Trade's AI Solutions Registry. MTS has already added the new system to the unified registry of domestic software.
Large enterprises in Kamchatka Krai are also actively implementing environmentally safe technologies and developing regenerative economy technologies, further emphasizing the region's commitment to environmental protection.
