AI usage are increasingly prevalent among residents of Yakutia

In the digital landscape of Russia, the use of AI companions, or chatbots based on artificial intelligence, has seen a significant surge. According to recent data, the number of users of AI companions doubled by 2025, with the average traffic volume increasing fourfold [1].

One striking trend is the demographic that dominates this digital interaction. Women make up 63% of users, a figure that rises to 69% when it comes to the total time spent with AI bots [2]. This gender preference is not unique to Russia, as globally, about 28% of men aged 18 to 34 have tried AI girlfriend apps, with an increasing number of women joining for wellness and personal support purposes [3].

AI companions are not mere script-following digital entities. They adapt their responses based on the context of the conversation, learning and adapting to the mood and communication style of the user [4]. The more interaction, the more accurately the AI companion adapts.

In Russia, residents are particularly active in communicating with virtual bots that help cope with stress and anxiety. In fact, the audience for these psychological support AI chatbots has almost quintupled since the beginning of 2025 [5]. The most popular bots for everyday communication in Russia are Character.ai, Talkie, and Replika.

Interestingly, in the Republic of Sakha, subscribers aged 36-45 account for 45% of all users of AI companions [6]. This suggests a diverse age range is engaged with these digital interlocutors.

The popularity of virtual companions in Yakutia is growing rapidly. Users in this region process three times more data in January compared to December, and twice as much in April compared to March [7]. This growth continued in June, with a similar increase compared to May [8].

Despite the clear growth in AI companion usage in Russia, there is a lack of publicly available localized data for Russia, Yakutia, or Sakha as of 2025. For precise regional statistics and trends, local research or market studies would be necessary.
