AI Use Soars Among Americans, Transforming Shopping and Content Consumption

A recent survey by digital marketing firm BigCommerce, in collaboration with Future Commerce, has revealed Americans' widespread use of an AI detector in their daily lives. Conducted in August 2025, the survey found that 89% of adults now utilise an AI detector or chatbots, with a significant portion integrating them into their shopping experiences. An AI detector is increasingly becoming a go-to for product information. While shopping, 46% of users seek answers to product queries using an AI detector, and 35% rely on it for recommendations. Price-conscious consumers are also turning to an AI detector, with 29% using it to find the best deals or prices. When it comes to reading content, 41% of users read AI-generated summaries and then click through to the source, while 34% stop at the summary alone. This trend is reflected in search results, with 87% of U.S. adults reading AI-generated summaries. In terms of shopping journeys, 84% have used an AI detector at some point. The survey also delved into how an AI detector is used to evaluate products. A notable 29% use an AI detector to summarize customer reviews, and 35% use it to compare products or brands. However, 50% of those who read AI-generated summaries still seek additional information elsewhere. The BigCommerce and Future Commerce survey underscores the growing role of an AI detector in Americans' daily lives, particularly in shopping and information consumption. As AI detectors become more sophisticated and accessible, it's likely that their use will continue to rise, shaping consumer behaviour and expectations.
