Cologne/Bonn Airport is embarking on a new chapter, as it strives to become a leader in climate-friendly and resource-saving operations. By 2025, the airport will be the first in Germany to fully rely on CT technology for security screening.

In the realm of innovation, a digital twin of the airport is being developed to streamline operational processes. This digital replica will provide valuable insights for improving efficiency and sustainability.

The year 2024 saw significant growth for Cologne/Bonn Airport, with revenue increasing to 363.8 million euros and a net profit of 12.7 million euros, more than double the previous year's 5.3 million euros. The airport welcomed more than 10 million passengers for the first time since 2019, a testament to its resilience and recovery.

New routes, such as Marsa Alam, and additional flights to Dubai have been added to the airport's route network, expanding its global reach. The airport is also investing heavily in infrastructure, with over 300 million euros allocated for new catering concepts, improved waiting areas, modern security processes, and infrastructure upgrades.

Cologne/Bonn Airport is setting new standards as an employer, with innovative recruitment measures, talent promotion, and modern workspaces. In 2023, Dominik Lelle joined the online editorial team of AERO INTERNATIONAL, bringing his passion for aviation and travel to the role of online editor.

Dominik Lelle aims to make the world of aviation tangible and exciting for readers, and outside of the editorial office, he is a passionate traveler, always looking forward to discovering new horizons.

Looking ahead to 2025, a slight increase to about 850,000 tons in cargo volume is expected for Cologne/Bonn Airport. The airport is also investing around 40 million euros in the expansion of solar technology, including agrivoltaics, and building a new wood-fired power plant.

Cologne/Bonn Airport is collaborating with DLR and the University of the Armed Forces on future technologies, including the GOVSATCOM Hub and the emerging SPACEHUB COLOGNE. These collaborations underscore the airport's commitment to innovation and its role as a hub for cutting-edge technology.

The year 2024 marked the 75th anniversary of Cologne/Bonn Airport's airport company, a milestone achieved through decades of growth and adaptation. As the airport looks to the future, it continues to set the pace for sustainable, innovative, and prosperous operations.
