STAT MedEvac to Enhance Emergency Medical Services with New Airbus H140 Helicopters

STAT MedEvac, an air medical operator based in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, has announced its acquisition of the Airbus H140 helicopters. This partnership, signed in March 2025, marks a significant upgrade in EMS helicopter technology and is expected to have a positive impact on emergency medical response capabilities in the northeastern U.S.

The H140, a 3-tonne class rotorcraft, is designed for the emergency medical services, passenger transport, and private and business aviation markets. This light twin-engine helicopter offers advanced technology, maneuverability, and reliability, making it an ideal choice for emergency medical services, particularly in challenging urban and remote settings.

STAT MedEvac has ordered two H140 helicopters, with an option for one additional helicopter. The new aircraft, known for their rear loading capabilities, can accommodate various types of stretcher systems, including intensive care ones and transport incubators.

Jim Houser, CEO of STAT MedEvac, expressed pride in partnering with Airbus on this project. He emphasized that the modernization and expansion of their fleet with state-of-the-art aircraft would improve response times and patient outcomes. Bart Reijnen, President of Airbus Helicopters in the U.S. and Head of the North America region, also expressed honor to continue working with STAT MedEvac.

The H140 features a new T-shaped tail boom, an optimized Fenestron, a five-blade bearingless main rotor, and new powerful Safran engines. Its large sliding doors facilitate access to the cabin, providing optimal patient transport capabilities.

STAT MedEvac, a critical care transport provider, has been an Airbus customer for 40 years, having flown Airbus helicopters since commencing operations in 1985. As the clinical arm for the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, they are the largest single branded, non-profit medical transport system in the Eastern United States.

Airbus looks forward to watching STAT MedEvac's H140s take to the skies, performing life-saving missions across the northeastern U.S. The entry into service of the H140 for the emergency medical services segment is planned in 2028. The unveiling of the H140 took place at the vertical lift industry show VERTICON in Dallas, Texas.

With the integration of advanced digital flight systems, the operational benefits for STAT MedEvac are expected to include improved safety and mission effectiveness. The H140's larger cabin space with large windows and an optimized cabin layout can accommodate up to six passengers comfortably.

In summary, STAT MedEvac’s acquisition of the Airbus H140, starting in 2025, represents a notable upgrade in EMS helicopter technology, with an anticipated positive impact on emergency medical response capabilities in the northeastern U.S.

The acquisition of Airbus H140 helicopters by STAT MedEvac signifies a significant advancement in emergency medical services (EMS) helicopter technology. This partnership, characterized by advanced technology, emphasizes STAT MedEvac's mission to improve response times and patient outcomes.
