Amazon Expands in Michigan with New Sorting and Delivery Centers
Amazon is expanding its presence in Gaines Township, Michigan. The tech giant is constructing a sorting center, set to open in 2022, and a delivery center, expected to launch in 2023. This follows the successful opening of Amazon's delivery station in Walker earlier this year.
Amazon's growth in the region began in March 2020 with the opening of a $150 million fulfillment center in Gaines Township. The Michigan Strategic Fund supported this project with a $4 million grant. Now, Amazon is set to create more jobs with the upcoming facilities.
The delivery center will not only serve Amazon but also house several third-party delivery companies. FedEx, DHL, and UPS are among those expected to operate from the new centers by 2023. Each facility is projected to employ over 100 Amazon staff members.
Amazon is actively recruiting for its Grand Rapids Delivery Station. A hiring event is scheduled for Sept. 15, offering sign-on bonuses to attract new employees.
Amazon's investment in Gaines Township is expected to boost the local economy, creating jobs and fostering collaboration among delivery companies. The upcoming sorting and delivery centers, along with the existing fulfillment center, solidify Amazon's commitment to the region.
