Amazon's Project Kuiper to Double Satellite Count, Launch Services in 2026

Amazon's Project Kuiper is expanding rapidly. The tech giant is set to double its satellite constellation to over 200 this year, with three more launches planned. The project, aimed at providing global broadband internet, is on track to reach full coverage by 2027.

So far, 102 satellites have been deployed, all functioning nominally as they shift to their final orbits. Amazon has tested downlink speeds up to 1.8 Gbps and uplinks around 450 Mbps, demonstrating impressive performance. The company has a multibillion-dollar launch contract, but reliance on new vehicles has caused a one-year delay.

To meet FCC licensing conditions, Amazon must deploy half of its planned 3,232 satellites by July. Services are expected to start in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, and France by the end of Q1 2026, expanding to 26 countries by year-end. An Atlas 5 is scheduled to deploy another 27 satellites on Sept. 25, with two more launches planned in October and November/December. Kuiper satellites have launched aboard four missions since April, establishing 100 Gbps optical inter-satellite links in mere seconds of acquisition.

Amazon's Project Kuiper is advancing swiftly, with plans to double its satellite count this year and offer services in multiple countries by early 2026. Despite a one-year delay, the project remains on track to provide global broadband internet access by 2027.
