Amprius chosen for Amazon's Climate Technology Development Program

Amprius Technologies, a leading innovator in next-generation lithium-ion batteries, has been selected for the 2025 cohort of the Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator. This programme supports companies developing technologies that could reduce the carbon footprint of Amazon's devices and operations.

Amprius' specific goals and focus areas in the accelerator centre on leveraging its SiCore® battery platform. This technology is designed to help reduce the carbon footprint of Amazon's devices and operations by delivering up to 80% higher energy density than conventional lithium-ion batteries. This advancement could potentially provide longer runtimes, faster charging, and lighter device designs, supporting Amazon's sustainability goals, including the commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040 through The Climate Pledge.

Dr. Kang Sun, the CEO of Amprius Technologies, expressed interest in exploring how Amprius' silicon anode technology could provide more efficient and lightweight energy solutions in industrial, consumer electronics, and mobility-focused platforms. The company aims to apply its technology beyond just devices, exploring opportunities in industrial products, consumer electronics, robotics, and mobility platforms such as electric vehicles (EVs), electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and micromobility solutions like electric scooters and drones.

The demand for lighter, more energy-dense solutions is growing in sectors such as light electric vehicles, aviation, and robotics. Amprius' SiCore battery platform is in high demand for these sectors, offering a path to higher system efficiency and lower environmental impact.

Amprius will have access to Amazon’s technical and sustainability teams, which allows it to explore how its technology can improve sustainable product performance across Amazon Devices. Juliette Devaney, the Head of Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator, stated that programs like this provide a valuable forum for exploring future applications of Amprius' batteries. Dr. Sun added that participating in the accelerator provides a valuable opportunity to engage with Amazon's technical and sustainability teams.

In summary, Amprius seeks to demonstrate carbon reduction potential in Amazon's devices using SiCore battery technology, support more energy-efficient device platforms via longer lifetimes, faster recharge, and lightweight design, explore broader integration opportunities in mobility and industrial sectors to scale emissions reductions, and collaborate closely with Amazon’s technical and sustainability teams for product and operational impact. The Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator supports companies like Amprius in their mission to reduce carbon emissions across industries, reflecting the important role advanced batteries play in accelerating electrification.

Science and technology play crucial roles in Amprius' mission, as they provide the foundation for their SiCore battery platform, which is designed to increase energy density, reduce carbon footprint, and support sustainable product performance across various sectors, including devices, electric vehicles (EVs), electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and micromobility solutions like electric scooters and drones.

Finance and business aspects also come into play, as the demand for lighter, more energy-dense solutions is growing in sectors such as light electric vehicles, aviation, and robotics, making Amprius' SiCore battery platform highly valuable and increasing its market potential.
