Artificial Intelligence Strategy Launched by Verizon for Meeting Future AI Needs

In a significant move, Verizon and Google Cloud have announced a collaboration to leverage each other's strengths, with Google Cloud set to benefit from Verizon's robust AI and data platform. According to Bikash Koley, Vice President of Global Networking and Infrastructure at Google, Verizon's network infrastructure is well-equipped to support demanding AI workloads.

Verizon is expanding its AI ecosystem through key partnerships, including with tech giants like NVIDIA, Vultr, Google Cloud, and Meta. This collaboration aims to transform customer, employee, and network experiences. Already, Google Cloud and Meta are using additional capacity provided by Verizon to support their AI workloads.

Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President of Telecom at NVIDIA, commented that telecom networks are uniquely positioned to provide a distributed AI infrastructure that meets enterprise needs. The partnership between NVIDIA and Verizon will see them working together to reimagine how GPU-based edge platforms can be integrated into Verizon's 5G private networks.

To further bolster its AI capabilities, Verizon has formed a new partnership with Vultr, a global GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) and cloud computing provider. J.J. Kardwell, CEO of Vultr, stated that GPUs play a crucial role in powering AI workloads and the rapidly growing demand for real-time inference is driving the need for AI infrastructure at the edge. Verizon's connectivity infrastructure is uniquely positioned to support Vultr's growth.

Verizon's AI solutions, like the Verizon Business AI Assistant, demonstrate the practical application of AI workloads at scale. This assistant automates customer interactions 24/7 using generative AI, showcasing Verizon's broader strategy for enabling AI-driven efficiencies over their network.

At the heart of this collaboration is Verizon AI Connect, an integrated suite of solutions and products for deploying AI workloads at scale. This platform delivers AI workloads as needed, utilizing resources such as the macro 5G network, high-speed fiber connectivity, edge compute environments, and space, power, and cooling infrastructure.

Key capabilities of Verizon AI Connect that support AI workload deployment and edge needs include low-latency connectivity, edge compute resources and network segmentation, integrated automation and telemetry tools, and advanced security layers embedded in the edge architecture. These features allow enterprises to process AI workloads in distributed environments securely and efficiently, thereby minimizing latency and enhancing performance for AI applications.

In sum, the partnership between Verizon and Google Cloud empowers businesses to effectively deploy AI workloads across distributed edge environments by combining high-performance, secure connectivity, edge compute capabilities, and intelligent automation. This collaboration aims to meet the growing demands for AI-powered, low-latency, secure digital services at scale.

Google Cloud is set to tap into Verizon's robust artificial-intelligence and data platform as part of their collaboration, a move aimed at enhancing their own AI capabilities. Verizon, with its expanding AI ecosystem, is also looking to utilize Google Cloud's expertise in artificial-intelligence to transform various experiences across customers, employees, and networks.
