Artificial Intelligence Takes Control of Emails, Organizing Chaotic Inboxes on Notion and Delivers Excellent Results
Notion, the popular productivity tool, has expanded its ecosystem with the launch of Notion Mail, an email management app. Announced last fall and now officially available on Mac and web browsers, Notion Mail aims to help users organise their inboxes more effectively.
Notion Mail supports Gmail accounts currently, with plans for Outlook integration in the works. According to a recent update from August 2025, the Outlook integration is anticipated but not yet released. No specific release date for Outlook or other email accounts has been announced yet.
One of the key features of Notion Mail is its AI-based auto labeler, which allows users to group emails based on content descriptions. This means that users can describe what they're attempting to organise rather than setting up formulaic rules. For example, emails from a teacher's account and Class Dojo can be grouped under a single label when described correctly.
Notion Mail is designed to help users manage multiple email accounts, but currently, this is limited to Google accounts. The app is SOC2 certified and HIPAA compliant, ensuring high levels of privacy and security.
In addition to email management, Notion Mail includes custom views, a built-in meeting scheduler, and the Notion writing environment. This means that users can enjoy the familiar Notion features like custom views and filtering for managing emails.
Currently, Notion Mail is free to use for Gmail accounts only. The app is also set to be available for iOS soon, with an Android version coming later this year.
Notion Mail was developed following the acquisition of another email app, Skiff, in February 2024. The acquisition was aimed at enhancing Notion's privacy and security features. Notion Mail was in beta for several months before its official launch.
For Outlook users or those with other email accounts, they will need to wait for Notion Mail updates or use existing integrations between Outlook and Notion for task and note synchronization. Microsoft's own AI-powered features for Outlook, like Copilot Pro, are available but operate within Outlook itself and do not relate to Notion Mail.
In summary, Notion Mail is a standalone app integrated within the Notion ecosystem, enabling familiar Notion features like custom views and filtering for managing emails. The Outlook integration is anticipated as the next major step in expanding email account support beyond Gmail. However, no confirmed timeline or support details for other email services have been provided yet.
