In the heart of Texas, Austin-based musician Lauren Bruno has been making waves in the music industry with her innovative startup, Prosper XO. After moving to the city in 2009, Bruno started hosting shows in her backyard to raise funds for local nonprofits, which eventually led to the creation of $3 Shows.

However, Bruno's journey didn't stop there. Understanding the challenges of making a living as a musician, especially in the era of streaming, inspired her to found Prosper XO. This groundbreaking platform aims to connect musicians with sponsors and give them better access to their data, addressing key issues faced by artists in the streaming era.

Prosper XO is set to create an artist-centric streaming platform that focuses on fair payment, data transparency, and sponsorship opportunities. The platform plans to pay artists fairly for their work, countering the widespread problem of underpayment in current streaming models. It also aims to unlock and provide musicians with access to their audience data, addressing the fact that 95% of listener data is usually controlled by streaming services and unavailable to artists.

Moreover, Prosper XO strives to connect artists directly with sponsors, enabling new revenue opportunities beyond streaming payouts. Bruno believes that this approach can give musicians more control over their careers, income, and audience insights, which are often limited in traditional streaming platforms.

Bruno's desire to help musicians stems from her own struggles in the music industry and the knowledge that 61% of musicians in America are living below the poverty line. To make minimum wage, a musician needs 800,000 streams a month on streaming platforms. This stark reality has led Bruno to focus on creating solutions that empower musicians and provide them with the resources they need to thrive.

Prosper XO is also considering providing a platform for artists to access legal help. Bruno is open to working with Spotify to build an alternative streaming platform. The final stage of Prosper XO's development may involve building an alternative to Spotify.

Bruno's efforts through $3 Shows have included raising funds for the SIMS Foundation, which provides mental health services to musicians. She emphasizes the importance of education and listening in finding solutions to the challenges facing musicians in the streaming age.
