In the heart of Beijing, Li Auto, a NASDAQ-listed company (ticker symbol LI), is making headlines today as they launch their first all-electric SUV, the Li i8. The launch event takes place in the city where Li Auto's headquarters resides, amidst a city grappling with severe floods [1][2].

Heavy rainfall across eastern, northern, and northeastern China has led to floods and geological disasters, causing extensive damage, particularly in the northern mountainous areas of Beijing, such as Miyun district [1][3]. The rain has overwhelmed the city's drainage systems, resulting in mass evacuations, with over 80,000 residents relocated [1].

As of July 28, the floods have claimed at least 30 lives, with 28 fatalities reported in Miyun, where over 21 inches (533 mm) of rain fell in a short period [1][3]. The floods have been one of the most extreme rain events in recent times, with average rainfall across Beijing exceeding six inches (152 mm) [1][3].

Amidst this crisis, Li Auto has shown its commitment to the city by donating RMB 10 million ($1.4 million) to the Beijing Charity Association to support relief efforts. The donation will focus on emergency rescue, aid for affected residents, and post-disaster reconstruction [1][3][4][5].

The Li i8, a 6-seat SUV, is Li Auto's first foray into the electric vehicle market. While the exact pricing is yet to be announced, it is expected to be 25% higher than Onvo L90 [6].

Other companies like Nio and Xiaomi have also contributed funds and supplies to support rescue operations and infrastructure repair in northern China [3]. As the city recovers from the floods, Li Auto's launch event serves as a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
