Auto manufacturers Hyundai, Alfa, and Volvo provide separate grant funds for various initiatives
In a move to support sales and promote electric vehicle (EV) adoption, several car manufacturers have introduced their own EV grant discounts in the UK ahead of the official government grant rollout. Among these are Hyundai, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, MG Motor UK, Great Wall Motor (GWM) UK, and Leapmotor.
The Hyundai Electric Grant offers immediate financial support and long-term savings for electric vehicle adoption, providing £3,750 off the cheapest model in the range, the INSTER. This brings the price down to an affordable £19,255. Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai and Genesis UK, stated that the grant ensures more customers can experience electric driving.
Hyundai is not the only one offering discounts. Volvo's EV Grant offer provides £1,500 off the EX30 models, making the entry level price £31,560. Alfa Romeo is offering a £1,500 saving across all Junior Elettrica models, lowering the cheapest model's price to £32,405.
Beyond Hyundai, Volvo, and Alfa Romeo, MG Motor UK, GWM UK, and Leapmotor have also introduced grant discounts. MG has joined Chinese rivals in offering EV discounts amid Government grant uncertainty. MG Motor UK is offering a £1,500 grant on the MG4 EV and MGS5 EV for private buyers.
Great Wall Motor (GWM) UK is matching the UK government EV grant with a £3,750 "Green Grant" on its ORA 03 range, making the entry-level model priced at £21,245 OTR. Leapmotor, which was among the first to announce price cuts of around 10% across its all-electric cars in the UK, has also offered its own self-funded EV grants at various levels.
It's important to note that eligibility for the official government grant is restricted to manufacturers who meet strict environmental standards. Models built in China, such as the Volvo, and South Korea, like most of the Hyundais, are unlikely to qualify due to their heavy use of fossil fuel-powered manufacturing and battery production.
However, both Volvo and Alfa Romeo discounts are available now and are not eligible for the official government grant. The Hyundai Electric Grant, on the other hand, is available immediately across Hyundai UK's dealer network but is limited to orders placed until the end of September.
This trend of manufacturer-led grants is part of an industry-wide price war responding to the UK government's new Electric Car Grant, which launched on July 16, 2025, offering up to £3,750 off qualifying EVs under £37,000. Car makers are applying their own discounts immediately to maintain sales momentum while waiting for official government vehicle eligibility confirmation, expected from August 11, 2025.
As the EV market continues to grow, these grants are expected to encourage more consumers to make the switch to electric vehicles, contributing to the UK's goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
The technology sector's latest innovation, electric vehicles (EVs), is seeing a significant leap with car manufacturers, including Hyundai, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, MG Motor UK, Great Wall Motor (GWM) UK, and Leapmotor, offering lifestyle-enhancing grant discounts to promote their EV models. These discounts, such as Hyundai's £3,750 off the INSTER, are designed to offer immediate financial support and long-term savings for customers, making electric driving more accessible and affordable.
