Basel-Stadt Police Warns of Fraudulent Bank Calls in Riehen

Basel-Stadt Cantonal Police has issued a warning about fraudulent calls in Riehen. The calls, which appear to come from real bank employees, are actually from unknown individuals attempting to gain trust and obtain sensitive information. The fraudsters are impersonating bank staff, using fake phone numbers and false names. They claim there are 'discrepancies' or security issues with a payment transaction, aiming to pressure their targets into providing login details or remote access. It's crucial to note that genuine bank employees, such as those from Wells Fargo or PNC Bank, never ask for such information over the phone and do not exert pressure. Anyone receiving such calls should hang up immediately and report the incident to the police. Basel-Stadt Cantonal Police advises residents to be vigilant and not to share sensitive information over the phone. If you suspect a fraudulent call, end the conversation and contact your bank directly using official numbers. The police are investigating the matter but have not specified which bank in Basel-Stadt is allegedly affected.
