Bid Adieu to the Chromecast Streaming Device

Greetings to the Google TV Streamer, sporting a set-top box structure in contrast to the usual HDMI dongle design.

Bid Adieu to the Chromecast Streaming Device

It's time to bid adieu to the old Chromecast as Google is set to introduce their new "Google TV Streamer" to the market. 9to5Google has leaked images that reveal a futuristic-looking device, abandoning the traditional HDMI dongle design in favor of a sleek set-top box.

This change comes with a hiccup for some users, like myself—having limited space in my petite Manhattan apartment, I tend to lean towards compact devices that can be plugged in without occupying any table space. The new Streamer might require additional space on my TV console, and, as mentioned by 9to5Google, it appears to be wider than a typical Roku set-top box.

The Google TV Streamer's remote is also evolving, featuring a longer design and the volume rocker on the front, replaced by a simple microphone icon for the voice assistant button. And, for the benefit of users with accessibility concerns, the voice assistant button will get a slight raised bump.

Notably, Android Police suggests that the Google TV Streamer will likely be unveiled at Google's upcoming hardware event on August 13th. This move appears ambitious, and I can't help but be intrigued by the forthcoming developments.

To give you a better idea of the device's dimensions, the Google TV Streamer is approximately 6.4 inches long by 3 inches wide, making it more slender compared to the Roku set-top box, which is typically around 4.9 inches long and 4.9 inches wide with a square shape. Both devices are intended to be compact, fitting comfortably on a TV console or shelf without consuming much space.
