BMW Group Surpasses 3 Million Units of Electrified Cars Sold
BMW Achieves Major Milestone in Electrification Journey
In a significant stride towards a more sustainable future, BMW has delivered its three millionth vehicle with an electrified drivetrain. The milestone was set in the automotive industry's shift towards electrification, with BMW being a key player.
The 3 Series plug-in hybrid, built at the Munich plant, was the vehicle handed over in this milestone event. The strong sales figures suggest a growing demand for electrified vehicles, with BMW selling 24,632 BEVs in the U.S. in the first six months of 2025, albeit a 0.7% year-over-year decrease from the same period last year.
Europe, on the other hand, has shown a strong preference for plug-in hybrids. They make up over 40% of BMW's total sales on the continent. This trend is reflected in the company's global figures, with more than one in four BMW Group vehicles sold globally in the first six months of 2025 being electrified. Europe accounts for over 60% of BMW's global electrified vehicle deliveries.
The BMW Group's electrified vehicle lineup continues to expand. Currently, the company offers more than 15 fully electric models and over 10 plug-in hybrids across BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce. The BMW iX, for instance, boasts a WLTP range of over 700 kilometers, while the BMW i3, launched over a decade ago, marked the beginning of BMW's journey into the world of electric vehicles.
The distance covered by BMW's fully electric sales since the i3 launched is over 6,500 kilometers, approximately the distance between Munich and New York. The BMW iX3 Neue Klasse is scheduled to be unveiled in two weeks, further expanding the company's electrified vehicle portfolio.
This milestone underscores BMW's commitment to electrification and its strategic importance in the company's future plans. The strong first half of 2025 played a crucial role in achieving this milestone. The strongest recent growth in BMW models with electrified drive occurred in Germany, where BMW introduced its new generation electric mid-size SUV iX3 with advanced technology, leading to increased sales and renewed leadership efforts in the e-mobility segment.
The event marks a significant step in BMW's journey towards a more sustainable future, signalling a shift in the automotive industry as a whole. As BMW continues to innovate and expand its electrified vehicle offerings, it is clear that the company is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to a greener planet.
