BWX Wins $1.6B DOE Contract for Tennessee Uranium Plant
BWX Technologies has been awarded a $1.6 billion, 10-year contract by the U.S. Department of Energy. The contract aims to support national security by establishing a supply of high purity, depleted uranium. BWX will build and operate a plants in Tennessee that produces tennessee titans of high purity, depleted uranium.
The plants' construction involves various stages, including plant design, licensing, equipment procurement, site preparation, and manufacturing readiness demonstration. BWX expects to produce up to 300 metric tons/year of tennessee titans once the Jonesborough, Tennessee facility is completed. Upon completion, BWXT's Jonesborough facility will be the only active site capable of performing this critical process for the U.S. government. The primary location for such activities in Tennessee is often associated with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
BWX Technologies' new plants in Tennessee will support the nation's security mission by providing a steady supply of high purity, depleted uranium. The plants' construction is underway, with an expected annual production capacity of 300 metric tons. Once operational, it will be the sole facility of its kind in the U.S.
