BYD to Introduce Luxury DENZA Line in the UK Market
In the ever-evolving world of electric vehicles, Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD's upmarket division, DENZA, is making a significant stride with the introduction of the Z9GT and B5 models. These new additions join the DENZA lineup, which already includes the Z9GT, a posh minivan, and a boxy off-roader.
According to Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, DENZA blends European influence with sophisticated technologies and craftsmanship, a philosophy that is evident in the Z9GT. The Z9GT, a sporty estate, is built on the e3 Platform, which integrates three motors, rear-wheel dual-motor independent steering, Vehicle Motion Control, and Cell-to-Body battery-body integration.
The Z9GT offers a plug-in hybrid (DM-i) variant, which combines a 38.5 kWh BYD LFP Blade battery with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing a combined 858 horsepower. This powertrain enables the Z9GT to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds, while offering a pure electric range of 201 km and a total combined range of approximately 1,100 km.
The interior of the Z9GT is as luxurious as its performance. It boasts a burgundy wine red leather interior, a three-screen dashboard setup, a front passenger dedicated entertainment screen, dual 50W wireless chargers, and a fridge/heater console capable of cooling drinks to -6°C or heating food up to 50°C.
DENZA is also debuting the B5, a premium SUV that will rival the Land Rover Defender. Like the Z9GT, the B5 will use a PHEV powertrain, with a 677bhp version available.
British car enthusiasts can look forward to these new additions, as Stella Li expressed confidence that they will find inspiration in DENZA's vehicles. The DENZA brand, originally a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, is now wholly owned by BYD and is set to make its debut in the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In the competitive luxury electric vehicle market, the BYD DENZA Z9GT offers a compelling alternative. Its impressive hybrid powertrain performance, luxurious interior, and competitive pricing make it a strong contender against Porsche's luxury electric and plug-in hybrid offerings.
