'Captain America's New Universe Adventure: 'Brave New World' Unveils Pivotal Plot Twist Prematurely in Preview Trailer'
Captain America: Brave New World leaves audiences scratching their heads. Individually, it's decent – Anthony Mackie shines as Sam, and Harrison Ford brings charm back to the big screen with his president role. However, stepping back, it's a jumbled mess.
The film revolves around The Leader, a mutated genius, aiming to tarnish President Ross's legacy by destabilizing an international treaty about a gigantic alien statue sporting confusion among those who missed Eternals. The story builds up to a twist that you'd know even before the movie's release, thanks to marketing – thanks to the heavy marketing, the supposed climax twist was spoiled.
Red Hulk, the supposed main antagonist, while promoting the movie alongside Mackie, is only included in a brief scene, which is the film's main downfall. The trailer gave away much of the film's concept, including Bradley being mind-controlled to attack the President. But as the flick progresses, the audience discovers that it was not a well-thought-out 'conspiracy.'
The film's structure mirrors its marketing, falling short of expectations. In fact, the movie's focus on Red Hulk as the 'big' villain against Mackie in a mere five-minute fight was its primary mistake. Yes, comic book fans are familiar with Ross turning into Red Hulk, but this revelation would have been more surprising if it weren't spoiled first.
Despite the director's claims, the film has signs of radical reshoots, and its bulk was left on the cutting room floor. The structure disregards how the film was marketed to viewers, resulting in an incoherent viewing experience.
