IAA Mobility 2025: BMW Leads the Pack, Volkswagen Tops Media Attention

The IAA Mobility 2025 show, held recently, saw a significant focus on innovation, digitization, and connected mobility. The automobile brand that garnered the most attention was BMW, particularly with the introduction of the new BMW iX3. The German automaker accounted for 13% of the total mentions in articles about vehicle models at the show.

Following closely behind were Mercedes-Benz, with 11% of mentions, thanks to the Mercedes GLC with EQ technology. The show also saw a strong presence of Chinese electric vehicles, with the Leapmotor Lafa 5 and Xpeng P7 each receiving 5% and 4% of media attention respectively.

Chinese manufacturers like BYD and XPeng had a significant but less dominant media presence, with 6% of mentions each. Geely and GAC had an even smaller media presence, with 3 and 2 percent respectively.

The show was largely dominated by German automakers in media coverage, with Volkswagen receiving the most attention. One in four articles referenced the company or its brands, giving Volkswagen 25% of the total mentions.

Cupra's Tindaya (E-car with range extender) and Raval (E-car) each got 3% of mentions, while the new Renault Clio received 5% of media attention. The Hyundai Concept Three electric car also received 6% of media attention.

Interestingly, only 12% of articles had negative comments about internal combustion engines, and 15% had negative comments about CO2 and climate. On the contrary, neutral coverage was more prevalent in the articles.

Autonomous driving and innovations were the main topics of 63% and 67% of articles respectively. Digitization was another significant focus, accounting for 61% of the articles. Connected mobility was the main topic of 62% of articles.

Notably, Audi and Porsche did not make it into the top ten most covered vehicle models at the show. Despite this, BMW and Mercedes closely followed Volkswagen in media attention, with 11 and 10 percent of mentions respectively.

In conclusion, the IAA Mobility 2025 show was a platform for innovation and the future of mobility, with a strong focus on electric and connected vehicles. The show saw a significant presence of Chinese and German automakers, with BMW leading the pack in media attention.
