Carbo Culture Plans New Biochar Plant in Middenmeer to Combat Climate Change

Carbo Culture, a trailblazing company in the biochar industry, has plans to establish a new biochar plant, ARC Middenmeer, at the ECW Energy site in Middenmeer, North Holland. This project, if realised, would be a significant step in combating climate change and bolstering local economies.

As of October 2025, no official announcements or public confirmations have been made regarding a new biochar site at the ECW Energy location in Middenmeer. However, industry hints suggest growing interest in biochar initiatives in North Holland. ECW Energy, a Dutch company specialising in energy production and waste management, sees Carbo Culture's technology as a complement to their sustainable energy portfolio. The chosen location addresses energy and climate change challenges faced by greenhouses in the region. Upon completion, the plant aims to remove over 20,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, produce 40,000 m3 of biochar, and generate 16 MW of sustainable energy. This project aligns with Carbo Culture's mission to demonstrate the integration of industrial-scale carbon removal into food systems and energy grids.

While no official confirmation has been made, Carbo Culture's plans to build a biochar plant at the ECW Energy site in Middenmeer, North Holland, show promise in tackling climate change and supporting local industries. The project, if realised, would produce biochar for greenhouse soil health improvement and generate clean energy. It is expected to remove a substantial amount of CO2 emissions annually, contributing to a greener future.
