Century Lithium Announces Production of Battery-Grade Lithium Metal Anodes from Angel Island Lithium Carbonate

Century Lithium, a leading player in the lithium industry, is optimistic about the future of lithium-based batteries, believing they will play a critical role in the growth of the electric vehicle (EV) and stationary energy storage markets.

The company's faith in lithium-based batteries is backed by its work at the Angel Island project in Esmeralda County, Nevada. This advanced domestic lithium development is focused on the production of battery-grade lithium carbonate, a key component for EV batteries.

The project, which is in a feasibility-stage, boasts low operating costs, making it one of the most cost-effective in North America. This is largely due to its unique chloride leach process, favourable deposit chemistry, and by-product sales such as sodium hydroxide.

Century Lithium's commitment to transparency is evident in its acquisition of FAST-41 transparency status by the US Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council. This status reflects accelerated and transparent federal permitting under a 2025 executive order aimed at boosting US mineral production.

In a significant development, Century Lithium provided Alpha-En Corporation with a sample of 99.8% pure lithium carbonate from Angel Island. Alpha-En then converted this lithium carbonate into lithium metal using its patented room-temperature conversion process. The resulting lithium-metal anodes exhibited high quality, with high purity and consistency.

The high-quality Li-MA produced by Alpha-En had a high areal capacity and extraction efficiency, reflecting the quality of Century Lithium's material and the strength of its technical capabilities.

Bill Willoughby, President and CEO of Century Lithium, expressed pride in being selected as a domestic source for Alpha-En's lithium-metal anode program. He looks forward to further supporting Alpha-En's efforts to develop a domestic lithium supply chain.

Century Lithium Corp. continues to advance Angel Island through ongoing permitting, engineering, and technical development at its Demonstration Plant. The company remains optimistic about the future role of lithium-based batteries in various markets, including the EV and stationary energy storage sectors.
