Christopher Ward's C12 Loco Watch Showcases its Exposed Mechanism for Less Than $5,000

The Christopher Ward C12 Loco, a new addition to the brand's permanent range, is making waves in the watch industry with its innovative in-house mechanical engineering and striking design aesthetic.

At its heart lies the CW-003 movement, Christopher Ward’s second-ever in-house movement. This hand-wound calibre boasts a massive six-day (144-hour) power reserve, supported by two barrels. The front-mounted balance wheel and escapement are showcased prominently on the dial side, adding to the watch's visual impact. The movement also includes a freesprung balance wheel with adjustable screws, improving accuracy and stability. The finishing is hand-polished on the bridges and gears, visible through an open-heart dial design that exhibits the mechanical beauty of the movement.

The watch is based on the Christopher Ward C12 platform but refined and updated, with an integrated stainless steel bracelet. The dial features a three-circle layout, stacking the dial, balance wheel, and escape wheel for symmetry. A notable design element is the “ski jump” slope dividing the dial, with contrasting vertical brushing on top and grain texture below, adding depth and visual interest.

The C12 Loco comes in multiple colourways, including a striking metallic orange open-heart dial version. The case measures approximately 41mm in diameter and 13.7mm in thickness, crafted from stainless steel for a sporty yet sophisticated look.

Priced around £3,795, the C12 Loco is positioned as a fun, sporty luxury timepiece with technical sophistication that could rival Christopher Ward’s popular Bel Canto model. It is available through Christopher Ward and authorized retailers as of mid-2025.

With its innovative in-house CW-003 movement, meticulous hand-finishing, and modern integrated design, the C12 Loco offers both style and horological substance at a competitive price point, making it an attractive choice for enthusiasts seeking a unique and sophisticated timepiece.
