The tech world is abuzz with anticipation for Google's upcoming release, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Set to be unveiled at a Made by Google launch event on Aug. 20, this new foldable device promises to offer several improvements over its predecessor, the original Pixel Fold.

Design and Dimensions

One of the most noticeable changes in the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is its design. Unlike the original Pixel Fold, which boasts a book-style form factor with a wide aspect ratio, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold adopts a more Galaxy Fold-like, narrower and taller aspect ratio (roughly 1:1 square). This shift in design offers a different usage experience, with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold being better suited for multitasking with a wider unfolded display. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is also rumored to be lighter, around 257 grams, improving portability.

Display Sizes

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to feature an 8-inch OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate support on the inside, while the cover display is rumored to measure 6.4 inches, a slight increase from the original Pixel Fold's 5.8-inch cover screen. This is made possible by a more compact hinge design.

Durability and Build

The original Pixel Fold has faced criticism for its durability, with concerns about hinge durability and dust ingress due to its IPX8 water-resistance rating and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the cover screen. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold aims to address these issues by upgrading to Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and boasting full IP68 dust and water resistance, making it much more durable, especially against dust which is critical in foldables.

Weight

Another significant change is the weight. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to be lighter (257g) than the original Pixel Fold, improving portability.

Software Support

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will have longer software update support—up to seven years—extending its longevity compared to the original Pixel Fold.

Color Options

The original Pixel Fold comes in two colours (Porcelain and Obsidian). The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to offer two additional colours, Sterling Grey and Green.

In summary, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a significant evolution in design with a new aspect ratio, improved durability through IP68 rating, lighter weight, enhanced display sizes, and longer software support, distinguishing it clearly from the original Pixel Fold.

It is rumored that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will also have a larger battery and a bigger outer display. The device is expected to start with 256GB of storage and could be priced at $1,799. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to be offered in two colourways: Jade and Moonstone.
