Crafting Kel-Tec PR57 Firearms in Wyoming

In early 2025, KelTec, a renowned company in the firearms industry, introduced a unique addition to the concealed-carry handgun market – the KelTec PR57. This handgun, designed with a focus on simplicity, affordability, and efficiency, stands out from the crowd.

The PR57 is one of the few modern handguns built without a detachable box magazine. This design choice was intentional, aiming to make the PR57 extremely simple to operate. Derek Kellgren, KelTec's director of sales, explained that this simplicity was a key factor in the PR57's design philosophy.

The absence of a detachable magazine also allows the PR57 to have a higher initial capacity than many similarly sized handguns currently available. With 21 potential opportunities for shots, it shares similarities with a revolver.

The PR57 was produced in a new manufacturing facility in Rock Springs, Wyoming, specifically built for this purpose. This expansion into Wyoming was strategic, according to Adrian Kellgren, KelTec's director of operations. He explained that KelTec wanted to set up a facility with longevity, given the typical 10-year arc of popularity for new products.

Every aspect of PR57 manufacturing at the Rock Springs plant has been streamlined with efficiency in mind. Raw materials for the PR57 are pre-cut to allow for quick assembly, contributing to the overall efficiency of the production process.

The PR57 was used as a pilot program for the new Rock Springs facility. Parker Rosenberger, KelTec's director of business development, stated that the design and manufacturing process prioritises simplicity, affordability, and efficiency. This approach has resulted in an affordable gun while still being entirely made in America.

The PR57 is chambered in the 5.7x28 mm FN cartridge, which is uncommon in the defensive world. This choice adds to the PR57's uniqueness in the marketplace.

Adrian Kellgren further elaborated on the design philosophy behind the KelTec PR57. He mentioned that affordability and manufacturing efficiency are top priorities in the design and production of all KelTec products. This commitment to efficiency was also a key reason why the PR57 was chosen to be produced in Wyoming for logistical reasons, as it was more efficient to have the entire production process in one location.

The KelTec PR57 was designed as a simple-to-operate handgun, with the intention of making it accessible for those exercising their Second Amendment rights. Its unique design and efficient manufacturing process make it a standout choice for those seeking a reliable, easy-to-use handgun.
