d&b audiotechnik achieved a 'shared atmosphere of excitement and uplift'
Monroe nightclub, a long-standing venue in San Francisco's vibrant nightlife scene, has undergone a significant transformation with the installation of a new d&b audiotechnik sound system. This upgrade aims to create a unique and engaging experience for its patrons, fostering a sense of "collective effervescence" — a shared feeling of energy and connection.
The new sound system, featuring V-Series and xS-Series loudspeakers, along with XSLi-GSUB subwoofers, has been carefully designed to deliver an even coverage, full-body auditory experience, and advanced zoning and volume control. This allows for fine-tuning the sound in different areas of the nightclub, ensuring a consistent and immersive sonic environment.
Payam Arvin, the nightclub's owner, emphasizes that the investment is less about the hardware itself and more about elevating the customer auditory experience. The new system replaces a sparser setup with significantly more speakers and subwoofers, designed to deliver the somatic impact sought by the venue.
The main dance floor is powered by V-Series V10P loudspeakers, providing necessary coverage and headroom. A custom subwoofer tower, housing two XSLi-GSUB subwoofers, has been installed in a 13-foot-wide passage between the front bar and the dance floor, strategically positioned to maximize their cardioid efficiency. The VIP area boasts an xS-Series 10S, 10S-D, and an 18S subwoofer, cleverly integrated into the existing seating.
The patio area received dedicated coverage with two 10S loudspeakers, while the bar areas on both the mezzanine and ground floor utilize 10S-D loudspeakers. Several E-Series EX15-SUB subwoofers have been discreetly integrated throughout the front bar area, demonstrating a balance between sonic performance and aesthetic integration.
The sound system design, which began prior to the pandemic and was finalized in 2024, was a collaborative effort between Michael Lacina of JK Sound and Don Lynch of Commercial Audio Video Solutions (CAVS). The project was later joined by Don Lynch of CAVS, bringing his expertise and d&b inventory to expedite the installation process amidst pandemic-related lead time issues.
The d&b audiotechnik sound system at Monroe has been met with resounding approval. Guests are experiencing a higher level of energy and a full-body listening experience, setting Monroe apart as a venue where sound quality and audience experience are prioritized.
