db audiotechnik introduces the latest KSL sound system

The German audio technology firm, d&b audiotechnik, has unveiled a new addition to its renowned SL-Series – the KSL system. This innovative system is designed to deliver power, precision, and clarity in sound reinforcement, making it a high-quality choice for various settings.

Key Features

The KSL system is equipped with several notable features that set it apart. One such feature is its precise directivity control, which minimizes sound spill and ensures clear sound delivery to the audience. Another key aspect is its array flexibility, allowing for adjustments in dispersion patterns to suit different venue requirements. Additionally, the KSL system is integrated with the broader SL-Series, offering a comprehensive sound solution for large venues.

Specifications

The KSL system typically includes modules such as the KSL8 (with an 80-degree dispersion) and KSL12 (with a 120-degree dispersion), providing flexibility for array configurations. It is often paired with SL-Subs or SL-GSUB subwoofers for enhanced low-frequency response. The system can also be integrated with other d&b systems like XSL and GSL arrays for a seamless sound experience across various venues.

The SL-SUB and SL-GSUB subwoofers contribute to an extension of the frequency range down to 30 Hz. They feature two 21" forward radiating drivers and a 21" rear radiating driver for cardioid dispersion, eliminating rear-directed sound in the KSL8 and KSL12 loudspeakers through cardioid technology.

The KSL8 and KSL12 loudspeakers offer consistent pattern control down to the lowest frequencies, with broadband directivity and considerable low-frequency headroom. They are the multifaceted little brother of GSL, offering a workflow and a fully engineered system solution.

Impact and Reception

Werner "Vier" Bayer, d&b-Produktmanager, expressed his delight at launching the KSL System to the market. Matthias Christner, Head of R&D Acoustics at d&b, explained that the challenges technicians face form the vision for new developments at the company. The KSL system is suitable for any sound genre due to its premium acoustical performance.

In many applications, the use of subwoofers flown behind or alongside the main hangs of the KSL8 and KSL12 loudspeakers is made superfluous, demonstrating the system's ability to provide high-quality sound coverage in various settings.

The KSL system is a significant addition to the SL-Series, which is bigger in more than one dimension. Its launch marks a step forward in sound reinforcement technology, offering a versatile and powerful solution for live performance venues and complex stage setups.
