Debating Between Solar Energy and Petroleum Sources
In the heart of Inner Mongolia, northern China, lies the Kubuqi Desert - a vast expanse of dunes and sand hills that has become home to an extraordinary solar energy project. The Dalad Solar Field, initiated by the Elion Resources Group, was completed in 2016 and has since been making waves for its unique combination of renewable energy and art.
The solar panels, mounted on stilts, stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a spectacular sight. At the centre of this solar field stands an observation tower, twelve stories high, offering a panoramic view of the field. It is from this tower that one can admire the most recent addition to the Dalad Solar Field - a giant image of a galloping horse.
The horse, symbolising 'hard work, perseverance, and determination to achieve the goal,' was completed in 2022. The image, visible from the observation tower, adds a touch of artistry to the otherwise monochromatic landscape of solar panels.
But the Dalad Solar Field is more than just a spectacle. It plays a crucial role in combating desertification, a problem that has long plagued the Kubuqi Desert. By harnessing the power of the sun, the solar field helps stabilise the sand dunes, allowing herbs and shrubs to grow in the shade of the solar panels.
Visitors to the Kubuqi Desert can also enjoy a thrilling ride down the sand hills on plastic sleds, adding a dash of adventure to their eco-friendly tour. The Dalad Solar Field, with its unique blend of renewable energy, art, and tourism, stands as a testament to human ingenuity and our growing commitment to a sustainable future.
