Delivering Concert-Standard Audio Quality to a Thousand Audience Members at Portland's Moda Center
PDX Crusade Delivers Powerful Sound with JBL VTX Frontier System
The PDX Crusade, a two-day gathering organized by Athey Creek Church, took place at Portland's Moda Center over the weekend. With a capacity of nearly 20,000, the event required a production setup on par with a major arena tour.
Spectrum Sound, a renowned audio company, designed and deployed a JBL VTX Frontier system for the PDX Crusade. The system included 14 VTX A12 out fills per side, 18 VTX A12 front hangs per side, 30 VTX B28 subwoofers, 16 VTX A8 cabinets per side for 270-degree coverage, 12 VTX A8 cabinets per side for backfill, and VTX A8 front fills.
The JBL VTX Frontier system was powered by Crown I-Tech 4x3500HD amplifiers, ensuring a powerful and clear sound. Throughout the weekend, front-of-house engineers consistently praised the system's balance, clarity, and powerful low-end performance.
Chris Tomlin's front-of-house engineer, Stephen Bailey, praised the system's smooth, non-fatiguing high-frequency output, allowing for higher overall levels without listener fatigue. The JBL VTX A Series was found to be well-balanced with a remarkably smooth and non-fatiguing high-frequency output.
Similarly, Anne Wilson's front-of-house engineer, Aaron Padilla, noted that the JBL VTX A12 and B28 combination provided the precision and impact needed for a worship event of this scale. Shea Taylor, front-of-house engineer for Zach Williams, commended the JBL VTX A12/B28 line for its impressive performance at a competitive price point, with consistent results across deployments.
Engineers left the PDX Crusade impressed with the JBL VTX Frontier system. Bobby George, business director at Spectrum Sound, reported that the system exceeded expectations in its design, placement, and sub configuration. He also highlighted the custom audio experience made possible by strong relationships with the church and the performing artists.
The JBL VTX Frontier system's Venue Synthesis software is continuously improving, making it a more compelling solution, according to Shea Taylor. This software allows for a tailored audio experience, ensuring the best possible sound for each venue and event.
The PDX Crusade aimed to share a message of hope with the Portland community. With its powerful sound system and star-studded lineup featuring Cain, Taya, Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes on Saturday, and Anne Wilson, Chris Tomlin, and Zach Williams on Sunday, the event was a resounding success in delivering its message.
Athey Creek Church's congregation has grown into the tens of thousands, and the PDX Crusade was a testament to their commitment to spreading a message of hope to the wider Portland community. The JBL VTX Frontier system played a crucial role in ensuring that the message was delivered loud and clear.
