New Spin on an Old Groove: Unveiling the Evolution of Techno King Tiga

Get ready to shake those rose-tinted glasses, because techno titan Tiga is shaking up the dance scene once again! Rawr, here's with the lowdown on this dance music OG.

Is he a speedster behind the wheel, cruising in a Bugatti-in-sound form? A whirlwind of beats that'd make you believe techno wasn't just a genre, but a country? If the answer is yes, then hey, you've got it right!

DJ. Production star. Nightlife entrepreneur. Head honcho of Turbo Recordings. Tiga's been seeing the dance floor with a discerning eye for a whopping 25 years. And if veteran status ain't cool, what is?

The year that marked his big iVDay was 2001. He took his hour and a half to whip up what became his breakout global hit, Sunglasses at Night. But for Tiga, the highlights of his career reach way back to the 90s, when he was vibing by the beaches of Goa, helping his pops craft mixtapes, and throwing his hometown's first raves.

With his latest single Eye Luv U just dropped in our website-mastered Stems format, Tiga's keeping it fresh (like Grandma's zombie).

We had a chat with the pioneer to dish about his set prep, thoughts on tech, and the laughter factory that fuels his Universe.

On unearthing new sounds and readying for the DJ booth:

"It's chaos. [Laughter] It's a total mess."

As a rookie in the techno era of the 90s, Tiga was all about the new and the now. He lived for the thrill of the newbie releases, with a dash of classics and oldies. But with his catalogue of self-produced tracks growing ever larger, his preparation process has become more of a hot mess. With gigs spanning the globe, Tiga doesn't always just play for new ears - he's got a touch of the tourist vibes, and it shows.

"[...] in a hotel room, in a couple of hours, I pick my favorite songs at the time, with some old ones, and try to tailor it a bit for the place I'm playing."

On the tech revolution of DJing:

"The core has barely changed."

Simple records gave way to a world of possibilities. Once limited by just having a box of 80 records, DJs had to become true inventors and problem-solvers. But with technology's new-age charm, those restrictive days are long gone.

"I refuse to bring a laptop into the club."

As much as he's a friend of the future, Tiga has found a way to stick to the past. He has resisted the urge to let the laptop crowd in, proudly keeping his live performances simple and raw.

On finding that perfect jam and keeping totally fresh:

"Humour for me is a very clear sign of intelligence."

Don't come around contesting Tiga's funnyness, because he's got an answer for that. Smart wit, great jokes, and laughter are all the ingredients needed to give the true geniuses a top-spot in his book. Famous names like Bowie, Prince, and Louis CK are on his list, because humor is their superpower too!

On battling criticism and protecting the art:

"Ideas are funny things, they come and go quickly."

Tiga, like any artist, has a knack for mystifying the creative process, and for good reason. Ideas can be fragile, fleeting, and may vanish with a unkind word. So, it's crucial to guard your creative spark against any premature bashing.
