Dixon aims to collaborate with China's HKC for module production

Get ready for some exciting news from the tech world! Noida-based Dixon Technologies, known mainly for its telecom and mobile phone manufacturing, is teaming up with Chinese company HKC. The duo aims to create a display module manufacturing unit that will cater to smartphones, laptops, and TVs. According to Sunil Vachani, chairman of Dixon Technologies, HKC will hold a minority stake in the venture.

Since HKC is an investor from a country India shares a border with, the collaboration requires approval from the Indian government. The application was submitted about six weeks ago under Press Note 3 of 2020, which mandates prior approval for investments from border-sharing countries like China[1][3][4]. If all goes well, the investment for this brilliant venture will amount to around Rs 400 crore.

But, that's not all! Dixon Technologies is not stopping at display modules. They have their sights set on manufacturing components for cameras, batteries, and even laptops. These components will be employed in the mobile phones manufactured by the company[4].

The partnership with HKC comes at an opportune time, as several Korean and Taiwanese companies have exited the low-end display technology market[1]. Dixon Technologies is also actively seeking more partnerships to augment India's manufacturing ecosystem for diodes and components[2].

The company is also planning to commercially launch laptops from its facilities soon. They have already set up a capacity of 2 million laptops per year, catering to brands like HP, Lenovo, and Asus[3]. In the upcoming years, Dixon Technologies will also be investing in the manufacturing of laptop components like SSD, battery, and memory[3].

Stay tuned as Dixon Technologies continues to expand its horizons in the electronics industry!
