Dubai Enhances Electric Vehicle Charging Stations to 1,270 Spots, Strengthening its Position as a Leader in Eco-Friendly Transportation

Dubai, a city known for its ambitious goals, is making significant strides in electric vehicle (EV) adoption and infrastructure development. As of mid-2025, the city boasts over 1,270 EV charging points[1][2], serving more than 40,600 electric vehicles[2].

This extensive network, a milestone announced by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), is the result of public-private partnerships and DEWA's EV Green Charger initiative, launched in 2014[1][2]. The infrastructure includes a variety of charging stations—ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers—ensuring convenience for EV users.

To accelerate growth, DEWA has introduced a comprehensive licensing system encouraging private sector investment in EV charging infrastructure development and operations across Dubai[1]. This move supports the goal of increasing the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50% of all cars on UAE roads by 2050[1][2]. Partnerships with private companies like Parkin enhance coverage in high-footfall locations[1].

The infrastructure is expanding actively. From approximately 740 charging points in early 2025, Dubai aims to reach over 1,000 publicly available stations before the year ends, aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050[1]. The growth in EV adoption has been explosive, necessitating further infrastructure enhancements.

Smart digital services are integrated into Dubai's EV charging infrastructure. EV users can access charging stations via DEWA's mobile app, website, and other digital channels[1]. The city also hosts a new "Dubai EV Community Hub" website, serving as a central platform for EV resources and adoption in the emirate[1].

Looking ahead, Dubai's green mobility innovations extend beyond EVs. Urban air mobility featuring electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft is advancing, with established partnerships and infrastructure development underway, targeting a 25% autonomous trip rate by 2030[5].

In summary, Dubai's EV infrastructure is a testament to its commitment to sustainable transport. The city's comprehensive licensing system encourages private sector investment, while partnerships like the one with Parkin support station deployment in high-traffic areas. The network is expanding rapidly, with a target of 1,000+ charging stations by the end of 2025, and ongoing alignment to Dubai’s Clean Energy and Net Zero goals. The city's broader green mobility innovations, such as eVTOL urban air mobility, indicate a comprehensive approach to sustainable transportation.
