Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts rejoice! The new 'D-20' Watch is here to commemorate your impressive crits in the game.
Introducing the Timestop D-20 Watch: A Perfect Blend of Gaming and Timekeeping
The gaming world has a new companion, the Timestop D-20 Watch. This innovative device, designed specifically for Dungeons & Dragons players, offers more than just telling time.
Priced at $160, the stainless steel version of the watch is currently available for purchase. However, due to its popularity, the initial 1,000-unit run may sell out soon. For those who prefer a more affordable option, the cheaper black resin and orange versions will start shipping in January next year, with the base black resin model priced at $100 and the special orange version costing $120.
The Timestop D-20 Watch boasts a lo-fi design, reminiscent of the segment LCD wristwatch, which was popular around the same time as the 1974 release of the Dungeons & Dragons book by TSR. The watch face features symbols for a D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, and D20, and includes a random number generator. For D&D 5E players, the watch can be set to roll with advantage or disadvantage on the D20.
One of the standout features of the Timestop D-20 Watch is its 'Advanced Combat Mode', which allows rolling up to 12 dice at once. To add an extra layer of excitement, the watch displays a small sword icon to indicate crit success or failure.
The watch is equipped with a CR2025 watch battery, which is expected to last for 3 years before replacement. In dim light, an orange backlight illuminates the watch face, ensuring readability. The final version of the watch also boasts a water-resistant housing and mechanical buttons for selecting die types or changing the time.
The Timestop D-20 Watch was developed during the pandemic by Devin Montgomery, who drew inspiration from a combination of D&D and electronic tinkering. Montgomery has confirmed that the current firmware for the watch is fixed and stable, eliminating the need for updates during its lifespan.
While the Timestop D-20 Watch is an excellent tool for traditional D&D games, it may not be suitable for games using a dice pool system like Mythworks' The Wildsea. Nevertheless, for those who prefer the roll of a die over digital randomization, the Timestop D-20 Watch is a must-have accessory.
