Electric SUV model Polestar 3 breaks Guinness World Record for longest distance driven on a single charge

The Polestar 3, a highly-anticipated all-electric full-size SUV, has made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled on a single charge. This impressive feat was achieved under standard conditions, without any external power sources such as solar panels or kinetic energy recovery systems.

During the record-breaking journey, the Long Range Single Motor variant of the Polestar 3 covered a distance of 935.44 kilometers. Professional efficiency drivers Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker, and Richard Parker took turns every three hours to maintain concentration during the attempt, with the vehicle using standard 20-inch wheels and Michelin Sport 4 E tires.

The Polestar 3's battery was fully charged before the start of the record-breaking attempt, and it reached its official WLTP range of 706 kilometers with 20% remaining battery capacity. After the display showed zero percent battery, the Polestar 3 covered an additional 13 kilometers before reaching a charging station.

The record-breaking journey took 22 hours and 57 minutes under varying weather conditions, including rain. Webfleet, a telematics solutions provider, verified the record-breaking journey with video footage, odometer readings, GPS data, and battery level measurements. The Polestar 3's record was monitored by a Guinness World Records adjudicator, ensuring the accuracy of the achievement.

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller declared that the Polestar 3's record-breaking achievement is another testament to its setting new benchmarks in electric performance. He also stated that Polestar will continue to push the boundaries of technology and electric performance.

The Polestar 3 is equipped with a powerful dual electric motor powertrain, producing 489 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. An available Performance package increases output to about 517-510 horsepower and up to 671 lb-ft torque. A single-motor rear-wheel-drive version with 299 horsepower and 361 lb-ft torque is also available.

The Polestar 3's large 111-kWh battery pack offers an EPA-rated range up to 315 miles (507 kilometers) for the dual-motor version, and the single-motor variant offers an EPA range up to 350 miles. Real-world testing has confirmed efficient energy use, achieving near or better than EPA figures.

The Polestar 3 also boasts impressive performance, with 0-60 mph acceleration under 5 seconds for higher trims. Handling is praised for being precise, with minimal body roll and natural brakes. Air suspension enhances ride comfort and stability on twisting roads.

The Polestar 3 supports up to 250 kW DC fast charging, allowing quick recharge sessions. An 11 kW onboard AC charger is suitable for overnight home charging, and the vehicle's 400-volt electrical architecture considers a future potential move to 800-volt.

The Polestar 3's design is sleek and modern, with a five-seat configuration, a spacious interior, and a flat floor. The big SUV size, with a low roofline and high beltline, gives it a crossover vibe. Rear cargo space is ample for luggage for five occupants.

The Polestar 3 is also equipped with advanced technology, including a large 14.5-inch touchscreen interface, advanced driver assistance with Pilot Pack, and Level 4 autonomy technology expected in mid-2025. An optional premium sound system by Bowers & Wilkins is available.

The starting MSRP for the Polestar 3 ranges from around $67,500 to $84,900, depending on trim and options. With its powerful electric drivetrain, long-range battery, fast charging, and advanced tech, the Polestar 3 is poised to make a significant impact in the luxury electric SUV market.
