Energy company Envision Energy collaborates with FERA Australia to progress a 1-gigawatt wind energy project alongside a 1.5-gigawatt hour energy storage system in Australia.
Envision Energy and FERA Australia Announce Landmark Hybrid Renewable Energy Project
Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology, and FERA Australia have announced a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at delivering large-scale hybrid renewable energy projects across Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM). This partnership marks the first initiative of its kind in Australia, with the potential to deliver up to 1 Gigawatt (GW) of wind generation capacity and 1.5 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery energy storage.
The project utilizes Envision's integrated technology platform, which combines advanced wind turbines, containerized battery systems with grid-forming power conversion systems (PCS), and proprietary Hybrid Power Plant Controller (HPPC) software to optimize hybrid wind and storage operations. The initial pilot will be launched in Victoria, with plans to potentially scale up across the NEM.
This collaboration reflects growing confidence in Envision’s technology and capabilities to enhance grid reliability and support Australia's zero-carbon transition goals. The partnership is seen as a benchmark model to showcase how hybrid renewable systems can unlock new value streams and improve power system flexibility, important for integrating variable renewable resources and stabilizing the grid.
FERA Group, the parent company of FERA Australia, brings 20 years of success in Italy to the table. The Australian team benefits from two decades of expertise in site identification, design, construction, and operation of renewable energy plants. FERA Group is dedicated to producing electricity from renewable sources in an efficient and sustainable manner.
Envision Energy has been recognized as a "Green Giant" in the TIME 100 Most Influential Companies list and has been included in Fortune's Change the World list. The company joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2021 and is committed to achieving the "Business Ambition for 1.5°C".
The partnership between Envision Energy and FERA Australia is expected to strengthen Australia’s renewable energy infrastructure, demonstrating the technical and commercial viability of combining wind power with large-scale battery storage using advanced control systems. It will also enhance grid resilience and flexibility by using grid-forming storage technology that helps stabilize grid frequency and voltage.
The agreement between the two companies sets a precedent for future large-scale hybrid renewable projects in Australia and potentially other regions, leveraging Envision’s global expertise and FERA’s local development capabilities.
