EV Drivers Happy, Industry Calls for Affordable Models and Better Charging
A recent user survey reveals that electric vehicle (EV) drivers are content with charging services and would opt for another EV. However, the automotive industry and the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) highlight the need for affordable EV models and improved infrastructure to boost EV adoption.
The VDA reports that electric mobility's growth is stalling, despite 60% of charging cases being cheaper than refueling petrol or diesel cars. Fast charging with a roaming partner is the priciest option but remains competitive with average fuel prices. Only 10% of German municipalities with fewer than 500 inhabitants lack public infrastructure, impacting just 6% of the population.
The automotive industry has introduced initiatives to accelerate EV market growth. These include tax incentives for new and used electric cars, extended tax exemptions until 2035, and regulatory measures to improve infrastructure and reduce costs. However, the VDA stresses that affordable EV models are still lacking, and public infrastructure is the main barrier to growth. The BDEW, on the other hand, has a different viewpoint on the matter.
While EV drivers express satisfaction with charging services, the automotive industry and the VDA agree that affordable EV models and improved infrastructure are crucial for boosting electric mobility. The BDEW holds a different perspective on the issue, and further dialogue is needed to address these concerns and drive EV adoption.
