In a significant move, J. Sagar Associates has been attracting high-profile partners from various legal markets, as evidenced by the recent additions to their team.

One such addition is the group led by partner Padmaja Kaul, who has around 14 years of experience in advising clients on commercial disputes. Kaul's expertise includes contentious exits, shareholder disputes, insolvency, winding up, white collar crimes, and employment disputes and investigations. Her team includes associates Kushagra Sah and Yugank Goel.

Kaul has worked extensively in the telecom sector, advising various telecom giants on disputes with shareholders and vendors. This expertise will undoubtedly strengthen J. Sagar Associates' capabilities in this area.

The trend of partners joining J. Sagar Associates is particularly noticeable among those from closely held and/or family-run law firms. For instance, real estate lawyer Brijita Prakash joined J. Sagar Associates along with seven lawyers from DSK Legal in Bengaluru.

Furthermore, a four-member disputes team from Krishnamurthy & Co joined J. Sagar Associates in Mumbai. This expansion in 2024 has also seen the onboarding of M&A giant Iqbal Khan last month with a team of 20.

The partnership terms of J. Sagar Associates, including its financial and operational aspects, meritocratic setup, and strategic independence, are driving more partners to the firm. This development is part of their broader strategy to enhance capabilities and market presence in corporate disputes.

J. Sagar Associates has also expanded by adding a four-lawyer group from IndusLaw in Delhi. The addition of Rahul Marwah and other reputed lawyers has boosted the profile and strength of their disputes practice, allowing J. Sagar Associates to handle complex and high-value cases more effectively and reinforcing their litigation and arbitration offerings in 2024.

This focus on growing the disputes team aligns with the legal market trend of firms strengthening dispute resolution capabilities to meet increasing client demands for litigation and arbitration expertise. With these strategic hires, J. Sagar Associates is poised to deliver even more comprehensive legal services to its clients.

  1. The addition of Brijita Prakash, a real estate law expert, and her team from DSK Legal in Bengaluru, signifies J. Sagar Associates' expansion in various practice areas, including real estate law.
  2. The strategic hire of M&A giant Iqbal Khan and his team last month has strengthened J. Sagar Associates' finance capabilities, enabling them to better advise businesses on complex transactions.
