Get ready for an exciting new chapter in the world of Pokémon as Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to launch on October 16, 2025, available on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems.

New Battle Modes and Enhanced Mega Evolution

The game introduces a variety of new battle modes under the "Z-A Battle Club" banner. Players can engage in fast-paced, real-time battles with up to four opponents in the Z-A Battle Club (Link Battles) mode, where the objective is to defeat as many opposing Pokémon as possible within a 3-minute time limit. This mode emphasises strategic use of Mega Evolution, with short cooldown moves and multiple uses per battle.

In addition, there is a Ranked Battles mode where up to four players compete online to earn points, ranks (starting at Rank Z and progressing to Rank A), and seasonal in-game rewards based on performance and rank. Private battles with friends can also be enjoyed locally or online.

Mega Evolution Returns with a Twist

Mega Evolution returns prominently in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, featuring both classic Mega forms and new variants. A notable new Mega Evolution is Mega Dragonite, which features physical traits similar to its pre-evolution, Dragonair. Other new Mega Evolutions include fan favourites as well as new forms from various Pokémon regions like Mega Victreebel, Mega Clefable, and Mega Greninja.

Unlike previous Pokémon games, Mega Evolution can be triggered by clicking the right stick and can be used multiple times per battle.

Lumiose City and the Kalos Region

The game is set in Lumiose City in the Kalos region, featuring a day/night cycle and Wild Zones with real-time battles where Pokémon can move to dodge and reposition during fights.

In-Game Rewards and Ranking System

In-game rewards are granted at the end of battles and when a player's rank increases. The Pokémon Video Game Championships will shift to Pokémon Champions at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Franscisco. Additional rewards are given based on a player's final rank at the end of a season.

Pokémon Champions: A New Game Coming in 2026

In addition to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Champions is a new game coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices in 2026. More details about Pokémon Champions will be revealed in the future.

In summary, Pokémon Legends: Z-A offers an immersive multiplayer experience with real-time battling and expanded Mega Evolution features. Get ready to embark on a new adventure when it launches on October 16, 2025.
