FiberSense Bolsters Subsea Cable Security with New Partnerships
FiberSense, a leading provider of subsea cable monitoring solutions, has partnered with major defense and technology companies to bolster its surveillance capabilities. The collaboration involves enhancing the firm's DigitalAsset Marine technology, which is now being employed in the new Southern Cross NEXT submarine cable.
FiberSense's DigitalAsset Marine can detect a wide range of threats to subsea cables. It can identify cable exposure or 'strumming' events, which make the cable more susceptible to damage. Additionally, it can detect and classify earthquake and tsunami events, providing early warning systems for potential disruptions.
The technology has been expanded in collaboration with Southern Cross Cable Network. FiberSense is currently monitoring over 450km of combined terrestrial and marine segments for the network in the Pacific region. It can identify and pinpoint threats across the cable front haul section, continuously along the cable, and in real-time. Notably, FiberSense's DigitalAsset Marine operates over an 'in-use' fiber pair, ensuring full potential use of the submarine cable for clients.
The system can also detect and locate vessels, raise real-time alarms for anchoring or aggression events, and employ mitigation strategies to prevent cable breaks. This comprehensive monitoring service has been praised by Southern Cross Cable Network's Director of Networks and VP of Operations, Dean Veverka, for its detection, deterrence, and maintenance benefits.
FiberSense's DigitalAsset Marine, through its collaborations and expanded capabilities, is ensuring the security and reliability of subsea cables. Its real-time monitoring and mitigation strategies are crucial for maintaining connectivity and preventing costly disruptions. The technology's successful implementation in the Southern Cross NEXT submarine cable underscores its importance in the industry.
