Finch West LRT Starts Revenue Service, Eglinton Crosstown LRT Targets October Opening

The Finch West LRT has started its revenue service demonstration, potentially opening earlier than the long-awaited Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Metrolinx is now aiming to announce the opening date of the Eglinton line one month ahead of time, targeting October.

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT, under construction for seven years and plagued by delays, is set to enter its final testing phase this week. Known as the revenue service demonstration, this phase will mimic regular operation without passengers. Metrolinx hopes for 30 days of successful testing before opening the line to the public.

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is in charge of completing and operating the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Meanwhile, the Finch West LRT has already begun its revenue service demonstration, suggesting an earlier opening than initially expected.

Metrolinx is gearing up to announce the opening date of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT one month in advance, with October as the target. After seven years of construction and multiple delays, the line is now entering its final testing phase. The Finch West LRT's progress indicates that it may open sooner than anticipated.
