Fire Department Solingen Responds to Hazardous Materials Leak on A3
On September 23, 2025, the Fire Department Solingen responded to a hazardous materials incident at the Ohligser Heide rest area on the federal highway A3. A truck carrying various hazardous materials had leaked an unknown liquid, prompting a swift response from around 70 firefighters.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the truck's cargo area mostly covered in the unknown liquid. They donned chemical protective suits and heavy breathing apparatus, with a drone assisting in reconnaissance. The liquid was successfully absorbed using a binding agent. Samples were taken and analyzed, revealing contaminated water. The rest area was evacuated and cordoned off to ensure safety. The police later arranged for the removal of the vehicle. Despite extensive efforts, the identity of the fire command leader during the incident remains unknown.
