Four Arrested in International ATM Bombing Gang Case

Four suspects, including two Dutch nationals and a 19-year-old German from Bochum, have been arrested in Austria for a series of ATM explosions across Germany and Austria. The arrests, made on August 19, 2025, followed a complex international investigation involving German, Dutch, and Austrian law enforcement agencies, with extensive support from Europol.

The investigation began in March 2024 after an ATM explosion in Solingen. DNA evidence led investigators to suspects in the Netherlands. Düsseldorf Police, led by ZeOS NRW, have been investigating the suspected ATM bombing gang since then. The suspects were finally apprehended after an ATM explosion in Hofkirchen, Austria, on the same day as their arrest.

The suspects are accused of causing significant property damage and making off with a mid-six-figure sum. Arrest warrants were issued and served against them. Search warrants were executed at nine locations in Germany and the Netherlands, resulting in the seizure of extensive evidence. Austrian law enforcement joined the investigation after similar explosions in their country in February 2025.

The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the international investigation into the ATM bombing gang. The suspects, including the 19-year-old German national, are expected to face charges for their involvement in the explosions and theft. The cooperation among German, Dutch, and Austrian law enforcement agencies, supported by Europol, has been crucial in bringing the suspects to justice.
