GM Appoints Tesla Veteran Clausen as New Head of Global Manufacturing and Sustainability
General Motors (GM) has appointed Jens Peter Clausen as its new head of global manufacturing and sustainability. Clausen, who previously worked at Google and Tesla, succeeds Gerald Johnson, who is retiring after 44 years at GM.
Clausen brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as a vice president of engineering at Google, focusing on product development and process optimization for data centers. At Tesla, he led efforts to scale the production of electric vehicle propulsion systems at Gigafactory 1.
GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra expects Clausen's expertise to accelerate the delivery of high-quality EVs for customers. Clausen is the latest high-profile employee to join GM from Tesla as the automaker shifts towards EVs. Gerald Johnson will stay with GM through the end of the year to help ensure a smooth transition with Clausen.
