Greifswald Mandates Digital ID Photos from May 2025

Starting May 2025, Greifswald residents applying for new ID cards or passports will need digital photos. The city administration office offers this service, with professional photographers uploading images to a secure cloud accessible via QR code. The cost is 6 euros per photo.

The local registry office or city administration is responsible for introducing digital photos in personal documents. They have set up equipment at workstations to take photos directly. While babies and toddlers can be photographed, professionals recommend using their services for better quality. Currently, digital photos are only valid for ID cards and passports, not driver's licenses or other documents.

From May 2025, digital photos will be mandatory for new personal documents in Greifswald. The city administration office offers this service at 6 euros per photo, with professional photographers storing images securely via QR code.
