Greifswald Residents Invited to Shape City's Heat Supply Future

Greifswald residents are invited to a public forum on September 15, 2025, at 6:30 PM to discuss the future of heat supply in the city. The event aims to gather citizens' feedback and influence further planning, with no registration required.

Currently, about 70% of Greifswald apartments are supplied with district heating, mainly generated via combined heat and power plants. However, for areas not connected to the district heating network, natural gas is the primary heating solution. The forum will present the results of municipal heat planning, including the current heat supply situation and future options.

Technologies under consideration for future urban heat supply planning include expanding renewable energy sources, integrating heat recovery, and developing hydrogen-ready gas power plants. Renewable heat generation, heat pumps, and solar energy are among the discussed solutions. Hydrogen is viewed as a perspective technology for decarbonizing heat supply.

The public forum will explore heat generation potential for areas without district heating network connection. Residents are encouraged to attend and share their feedback. For more information, visit the municipal heat planning website.
