HDR Support Introduced for Certain Original Series on Hulu Platform

It's bloody fantastic news for streaming junkies like us! Start strapping on your high-resolution glasses, 'cause Hulu's finally embracing high-dynamic range (HDR) streaming!

Now, I know Hulu's been offering 4K since 2016, but the big dogs like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Paramount+ had been winning the HDR race for years. But the wait is finally over! HDR competence has finally been implemented, evident from the updated entry on Hulu's support page[3].

A sharp-eyed redditor from the AVS Forum saw it first— Hulu users can "currently stream select Hulu originals in high-dynamic range (HDR), HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision on select devices"[3].

HDR content promises a higher contrast range, translating to finer, richer picture details[4]. With the new update, an HDR logo will appear on content's details page when it's available for streaming in HDR.

However, it's worth mentioning that not all of Hulu's original series support HDR. Shows like Nine Perfect Strangers, The Handmaid's Tale, and Little Fires Everywhere now come in HDR along with movies like Happiest Season and WeWork[2]. But series like American Horror Story still appear to be HDR-free for now.

As for the tech-support side, the option to stream content in HDR is only available to users with specific devices running the latest version of Hulu’s app, such as Roku (HDR compatible models), Fire TV devices, Apple TV 4K (fifth-gen or later), Vizio (HDR compatible models), and Chromecast Ultra (HDR-compatible models)[3].

Though Hulu's a bit tardy to the HDR party, it's still worth celebrating—the platform now supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, major plus points when compared to most competitors who only offer one or the other, with the exception of HBO Max[3]. Keep a close eye on Hulu's library, 'cause it's only going to get better!
